Grape Flavored Heroin

Drug Dealers are concentrating their “marketing” efforts to catch the attention of
elementary and middle school students. The drug that has catapulted to the top of the
most dangerous new drug list is called Cheese-Heroin. This immensely addictive
drug is a combination of Tylenol PM and heroin. It appears to be a light tan colored
powder that can be snorted, swallowed, injected or smoked. Both of these drugs are
depressants and can cause the body to shut down often resulting in the lungs not
being able to function properly. This may result in respiratory failure and death.
How are drug dealers targeting young children?
• Flavoring drugs like candy
• Selling it very inexpensively
• Getting classmates to sell drugs
• Relying on the children being naïve about drugs.
Most of our youngest generation knows very little about the popular drug called
“Cheese” and the drug dealers know it. As a result, they are going to great lengths to
get the attention of youngsters. Dealers are flavoring Cheese-Heroin with candy flavors
such as grape or strawberry. Children do not understand that the drug can be deadly
and sometimes do not even understand that it is a drug they are ingesting.
Children are offered “bumps” of Cheese-Heroin for as little as $2 that are one time
hits. It is extremely inexpensive with a gram of heroin selling for around $10. A gram is
the size of a packet of Sweet n Low. The dealers are trying to develop a market within
the young age group. Once kids try the drug, they often develop an addiction and will
return to the drug dealer for more. In other words, the drug dealers are creating a long
term market for themselves by selling to young children and starting addictions early.
One of the youngest deaths from Cheese-Heroin was in Dallas, Texas when a 14 year
old died at a party. Since 2005, there have been over 26 deaths in the Dallas area from
cheese. The majority of these deaths were young teenagers.
Dealers are recruiting young children to sell their drugs for them. Children are more
apt to try something new when a classmate is encouraging and pressuring them. They
do not want to be picked on or show fear and want to fit in with their peers. The dealers
understand that peer pressure is a powerful selling tool for children.
Recently in Dallas, Texas, a twelve year old boy was arrested for selling heroin to an
undercover police officer while an eight year old boy was acting as the lookout.
According to the Texas Education Agency, the number of statewide felony-level
offenses, such as heroin possession, increased 38 percent in the years 2006-2007.
The agency also reported that the region that includes Dallas, Collin and Rockwall
counties, incidents in which students were disciplined for drug infractions rose 13%
during the same years.
Cheese-Heroin is not the only drug the dealers are making appealing to the young
generation. Ecstasy also known as “X” is a drug sold in pill form. The pills come in a
variety of bright rainbow colors with a cute imprint or image stamped on them. For
example: yellow with a smiley face, purple with a bunny, pink with a flower, blue with a
skull, etc. Like the flavored Cheese-Heroin the pill looks like candy and does not
appear to be harmful to children.
How can you stop your child from experimenting with Cheese-Heroin and Ecstasy?
• Talk honestly to your children
• Explain the dangers of Cheese-Heroin and other drugs in detail
• Explain the drug dealers are trying to trick them by making drugs look like candy
• Be open to questions and answer them accurately without sugar coating the truth
Children know when an adult is not telling the truth so always be honest. Don’t tell half-
truths explain all the facts in detail. Make sure they understand the dangers of drugs
and comprehend what addiction means. It is important they understand that drugs
often lead to death and it is not worth the risk of experimenting. Encourage them to ask
you questions and then ask them questions to make sure they understand what you
have covered.
The best way to help children stay away from drugs is to educate them with the facts.
